Department of Democracy and Political Theory

In addition to describing Hungarian and European democracy, the Department of Democracy and Political Theory also contributes to the understanding of its actual operation as well as normative and critical interpretation.
The Department focuses on the following areas:

Empirical, normative and analytical theories of democracy;

The relationship between government and civil society;

Constitution, representative governance and its institutions;

The delegation of executive power;

The democratic control and accountability of the government and politicians;

The relations of democracy and governance.

The department also conducts research on the transitions between democracies and authoritarian regimes, and the relations between political institutions and regime performance.
