The Department focuses on the changing nature of contemporary democratic regimes and democratic institutions, the role of political leadership, as well as the normative problems of politics. Besides descriptively investigating the Hungarian political system and comparatively analysing its regional context, the Department pursues political theory projects to explain current trends normatively as well.
